The holiday season is a time for celebration, and what better way to mark the occasion than by indulging in exceptional wines? Each of the selections below tells a unique story, crafted with passion and shaped by its terroir. From volcanic slopes to terraced vineyards, these wines invite you to explore the regions that inspired them.
Cornas 2019 by Mikael Bourg

From the steep granite slopes of the Northern Rhône, Mikael Bourg brings us the exceptional 2019 Cornas. Known for his dedication to traditional methods, Bourg allows the Syrah grape to fully express its character. This vintage is bold and structured, with notes of dark berries and a touch of pepper. Its tannins and depth make it a perfect pairing for roasted meats or hearty stews—ideal for a cosy holiday meal. Even the perfect companion for a cozy evening in front of the fireplace.
Barbaresco 2018 by Fabio Gea

In Piedmont, Fabio Gea crafts Barbaresco with a natural, minimalist approach that captures the purity of Nebbiolo. The 2018 vintage, grown on calcareous marl soils, is a triumph of balance and elegance. It opens with delicate floral aromas and red cherries, complemented by subtle earthy undertones. With fine tannins and refreshing acidity, this wine is a graceful match for risottos, truffle-infused dishes, or aged cheeses.
SRC Etna Rosso 2021

When I read the meaning of the name I was quite touched. SRC stands for "esserci" which I will try to properly translate, as it literally means "being present". High on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, SRC Winery produces wines that embody the rugged beauty of this dramatic landscape. Their Etna Rosso 2021, crafted primarily from Nerello Mascalese, is vibrant and elegant. Bright notes of red currants and wild strawberries dominate the palate, underscored by smoky minerality that reflects its volcanic origins. This wine’s freshness and complexity make it an excellent companion to grilled vegetables or Sicilian-style roasted fish.
Lammidia Moontonic

A nice surprise from my dear cousin. Abruzzo, Lammidia embraces natural winemaking with Moontonic, a wine crafted in harmony with lunar cycles. This unfiltered wine is brimming with life, offering aromas of citrus zest and white flowers, with a subtle effervescence on the palate and a vivid freshness. Its refreshing nature makes it an ideal aperitif or a delightful pairing with oysters and light festive fare.
Le Nuvole Colleprimo 2021

Tuscany’s Podere Colleprimo estate offers “Le Nuvole” 2021, a Sangiovese cru of remarkable depth and character. Grown on 65-year-old vines in clay-limestone soils, this wine balances ripe red fruit with herbaceous undertones. Its elegant structure and lively acidity make it a versatile choice for the holiday table, pairing beautifully with roasted turkey or wild boar ragù.
Morenico Liquor by Figliej

Hailing from the Canavese region in Piedmont, Morenico by Figliej is not a refined liquor with roots in the vineyard. Crafted using pomace from locally cultivated grapes, it is delicately aromatised with oranges grown directly on the estate. This unique combination of grappa’s richness and the vibrant citrus notes creates a sophisticated spirit that’s perfect as a digestif. Morenico is a testament to Figliej’s creativity and connection to their terroir, offering something truly special for the holiday season.
Radice by Paltrinieri

I'm a huge fan of Lambrusco di Sorbara. I love the ones from Cantina Sociale or even Bergianti. This year it was Paltrinieri's time. From Emilia-Romagna comes Radice, a sparkling Lambrusco di Sorbara that captures the festive spirit of the season. Made using the traditional method, it features delicate bubbles and vibrant notes of wild strawberries and raspberries with a bright acidity. Whether served as an aperitif or alongside a charcuterie board, this effervescent wine is certain to delight.
Sciacchetrà by La Polenza Cinque Terre

On the dramatic cliffs of Cinque Terre in Corniglia, La Polenza produces Sciacchetrà, a rare and exquisite sweet wine. Made from sun-dried grapes, it bursts with aromas of dried figs, honey, and candied orange peel. Balanced by vibrant acidity, this luxurious wine pairs beautifully with blue cheese, biscotti, or simply enjoyed on its own as a dessert. It was my first time and I adored it.
These wines are more than just accompaniments to your holiday meals—they are stories waiting to be discovered. Each bottle represents the harmony of tradition, revolution, terroir, and craftsmanship. As you gather with loved ones this holiday season, let these wines bring an extra touch of magic to your celebrations.
Raise a glass, savour the moment, and toast to the artistry behind every sip.
Cheers!
